“will wreck it”
April 2, 2017
I may have shared this James Baldwin clip before. I may have viewed it no less than 20 times over the years. I may have heard this or read this or viewed this as a child. It may have informed the very person that I am today. I may have lived and breathed the very words spoken here… for 40+ years. I may have. I may be preaching to the choir — but “I” may not be preaching… at all. Maybe… I should.
Mr. Baldwin was certainly a tiny force of nature — and as he granted me the acknowledgment and encouragement to raise my own voice, through his speeches and writing and daring and even his running away (fleeing) to Paris… I will in turn continue to acknowledge and encourage “him” and his voice. Especially today. These days where so much is, politically, at stake.
It’s haunting to hear the words at the end of this clip… “will wreck it”… as if that could really happen… here. It’s haunting to realize that in may ways, it already has.
I may continue to share this clip… or I may begin to wreck it.
(or move to Paris, because I love Paris)
